As a youth, a neighbour used to help a farmer by culling pigeons, and we would lay them out ready for collection, and there would often be farty noises from them.
Maybe the lead shot gave them indigestion or they only fart when dead, or perhaps it was air leaking past the little holes the lead pellets left.

Parrots can and do fart, and 'pebbledash' wallpaper from quite a distance. We had an African Grey that chuckled every time he let one rip.
