1986 was the year:
Halley's Comet made an appearance, Diego Maradona dashed England's hopes with that 'Hand of God' goal in the FIFA World Cup, and for TV audiences, the first time medical drama Casualty was shown on BBC One.

“Last of the Summer Wine” is set in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, and the first series was filmed on location there. However, due to the reluctance of the BBC “Luvvies” to venture “up north”, a complete reconstruction of the Yorkshire Dales has been built on the “007 stage” at Pinewood studios, and all of the filming is carried out there, less than 20 miles from the BBC HQ in London.

It is conveniently located less than 10 miles from the private airfield at RAF Northolt, allowing the programme's stars to jet in from their homes in Monaco.

Last of the summer wine is a pale imitation of "I Didn't Know You Cared"

Both set in The West Riding of Yorkshire, when started.

The chef in Crossroads, was latterly played by the actor Angus Lennie. However, the producers, in an attempt to make the show as realistic as possible, originally cast celebrity chef Gary Rhodes in the role. Rhodes based the character on his mentor, Gordon Ramsay, and the character was invariably angry, argumentative and swore a lot. “Cross Rhodes” was quickly written out of the series, but the name remained.

If you think that the chance of premature burial is a thing of the past, think on this recent ‘near miss’ reported in the Daily Mail:

“…Maureen Jones, a 65-year-old grandmother from Yorkshire, who collapsed at home in 1996.

Her son called the GP, who decided that she had suffered a stroke and was dead. The undertakers were about to put her in a hearse when a policeman noticed her leg twitch and at once performed heart massage. Mrs Jones’s eyelids began fluttering and she opened her eyes.

She had been in a diabetic coma. She recovered, but four years later she was still having nightmares about being buried alive.”

Mr Morris Minor, a 66 year old Great Great Grandfather form Northampton, insisted he be buried with a live telephone in his coffin. That way, if he turned out to be alive after all he could still call his dealer for an eighth.

The Berlin wall was originally constructed in Korea in 1947 when the north fell out with the south. It was then, surprisingly, known as the Korean wall.
In the late 50s the 2 sides made friends and advertised the wall for sale.
By coincidence that was just as tensions were growing between east & west Germany and East Germany bid for it. It was moved on low loaders. That was in 1961.
It was a bit shorter than they wanted so they brought on Paddy McGarrity to extend it to the full length.
