What, if anything do you carry in your bag for such circumstances (the missus might notice if her tweezers go missing) or am I missing a trick?

I went to the drug store and got a few out of the bulk tweezers big plastic bottle thing. The are not expensive like the high surgical grade steel precision ground perfect slant tweezers that women and surgeons use.

Those solid tyres will never catch on though

I can remember as a kid getting a puncture proof football, didn't play with it for long, was worse than a medicine ball.

Get that thorn out. It will eventually work it's way in and cause another puncture.
I carry a Swiss army knife on my cycling travels and commute.

I also carry a Swiss Army Knife, one of the multi tool ones.

Yes I carry a set with my other tools in plastic sandwich bag in my saddle bag. I keep my fingernails cut pretty short and they may come in handy. And if I am out on a ride and decide I need to pluck my brows I just find a puddle of water and I am all set.
