Hi! I'm new to cycling and bought a cube aim sl 29 for off road and commuting to work. It's 7.5 miles each way and on a trial run tool 35 mins. My Q is about nutrition. I start work at 5am, currently get up at 4. Should I eat before I go? I don't want to get up even earlier and wait for breakfast to go down, as it were, i would prefer to eat when I get to work but not sure if the ride on an empty stomach would be a good idea. Suggestions anyone? Thanks

No problem to ride that before breakfast, just have something to eat when you get there.

That distance at that time of day is no problem for me on an empty stomach, but we are all different. Experiment to find what suits you.
And :welcome: to CC!

Hi siphi and welcome I would be able to do that also but (oh why have I put that ? ) I would most likly just ahve a couple of biscuits before setting of,like @Pat "5mph" says we are all different so just find what works best for you.

Hi and :welcome: Siphi.

Personal preference would be to have breakfast first, but as others have said I don't think it would be an issue riding a short distance like that on an empty stomach.

Thanks everyone. I'll give it a go. Just didn't want a shift at work and then a ride home with no energy!

Just eat when it suits you best. Some days you may feel OK, others you may feel hungry. I used to split my breakfast into 2... coffee and a quick snack at home and then the rest of breakfast when I got to work along with another coffee...

Cheers, that's what I was thinking. Only it's gotta be tea first thing in the morning! Haha

I often do a an hour's ride before work to keep fit/train and I do this without eating but drinking a a tea or coffee whilst I'm dressing and I'm fine on this; normal breakfast when I get back. I tried eating first but it takes too long and means I'm rushed for the ride - or have to get up even earlier...

Can't leave the house without some porridge & coffee in my guts. Though I have learnt that a Sunday roast needs about 2 hours clearance before it's safe for me to ride. I call it 'spud guts'.

Riding on an empty stomach first thing is OK, can be useful to help burn fat is received wisdom in some parts. I do this myself before some non-commute rides and have a cereal bar or something an hour in or so. Alternatively I get up and have a couple of slices of whole meal toast and a strong coffee about an hour before I head out, both options depend on how hungry I'm feeling when I wake up.
