Sorry, don't know anything about dogs, didn't know domesticated dogs like to roam.
Outdoor cats do like to be outdoors, they want to patrol their territory.
Unless they are sick, I would not lock an outdoor cat indoors.
Mind, when it's bed time for me the cat flap stays locked, don't fancy a half dead mouse struggle at 4am

Of course dogs would like to roam free, they are descended from wolves. They have the same primal instinct that cats do as far as being able to be out & about.
The big difference is cat owners are allowed to let their cats roam free, dog owners aren't. And even if dog owners were allowed, i doubt most of them would.

The cat who lives here is an outdoors cat. He's also a horrid, mercurial little sod.

I've never seen him do toilet so I imagine that the neighbours aren't any more of a fan of him than I am.

I miss my cat Tom (RIP), I don't miss the sound of his jaws crushing a mouses skull though. Waking up to find a small organ on the kitchen floor, which is all that he would leave of a mouse. It was probably a kidney, I hate that crap too.

The world has gone mad, I'm really pleased I don't watch television.

When i was a kid (70s, early 80s) dogs roamed free in north Manchester. My sister would lead a pack out for an adventure in the woods each day in the summer holidays.

This particular pack was forcibly disbanded by the authorities. Pensioners were being mugged for their groceries - i kid you not.

I'm a vegetarian.

Well, cows are made from grass.

.....
As for pollution, you could address the point I made instead of trying to evade it - what gives anyone the moral right to complain about one type of pollution, when they freely churn out another type of pollution without a second thought? ....
So, serious question which is not meant antagonistically: why aren’t you a vegetarian?

You frequently, and admirably, castigate people who drive unnecessarily, for selfishly putting their pleasure and convenience above the damage they do to the planet. Does not exactly the same principle apply to eating meat, with beef among the worst offenders?

(For the record, I am not a vegetarian. And I drive a car. Two, actually. )

I suppose we could try training casts not to.

You really need to sort out that predictive text, Salty.
