Been there, done that and still ongoing...

Must be about 12-13 years ago that I had the first urinary related symptoms that eventually led me to see my GP. As is my way, I had done my research and knew there were perhaps 4 possible causes. One by one eliminated most but after referral for PSA test, results were high - about 3x what they should have been for my age.

Referred on to urologist...BPH - no infection, no cancer just enlarged.

Tablets - helped marginally. Follow up after follow up...PSA still up and increasing. Biopsies. More biopsies. Ultrasound scans. MRI scans. Laser surgery to reduce size of prostate.

Bladder stone as a consequence of it. Had that removed (and surgeon took a chunk of prostate out at the same time and also had 'a bit of a tidy up').

More biopsies. This time template biopsies under general. Cancer detected. Not enough to worry about or treat. Just monitoring - next appointment is on Tuesday.

Oh, I'm not yet 60. Quite. And there's no screening programme nationally.

Doesn't worry me. I'm fitter now than ever, since my teens.

GWS !

BTW how often are +60 men supposed to have a prostate examination ?
(I was OK when checked 5 years ago )

I hope things work out well, and the problems resolve without surgery

Please do not take this post as criticism ......it isn't

We are our own worst enemy

A bit of "dribbling"" - we put it down to age and ignore it
A bit of hesitancy - we put it down to age and ignore it
A poor urine stream - we put it down to age and ignore it
Greater frequency - we put it down to age and ignore it

We are of an age where we don't bother the GP don't talk about personal issues and are stoic about our health

That is why so many Prostate presentations are advanced when reported to the GP and referred onwards

Yes, there is an argument for screening, but we all have to take some responsibility for our health

If you get the above problems, take your bladder to the GP as a matter of urgency

Absolutely right! If there's a problem you need to sort it, because it won't sort itself!
