Not to sure if I'm happy or not with Mudguard fitting

They have bent them to fit but I do believe if you shorten something by bending it, if you then straighten it afterwards, lo and behold it is longer again, ( some weird phenomenon, no just physical reality )....How many night caps have you had.........
YT is correct. Mudguard stays are supplied oversized, and are designed to be cut to length during fitting. These have been cut to fit the wrong mount, and are now too short to reach the correct one.

That's a perfectly good fitting job. It's not symmetrical - so what?

Apart from not being symmetrical the bent stays run perpendicular to the spokes rather than parallel, making them stand out more. Many like you wouldn't care, but others would. I won't hold your opinion against you if you don't hold mine against me.

As promised, here's a few pictures of mine. By the looks of things I have actually put a triple bend into the stays. This ensures that the angle at which they mount onto the guards is the same on both sides. I'll leave it up to the viewer to decide whether I've done a good job or not but I'm happy with it.

WRT the OP, you have a perfectly functional set of mudguards. Any difference would be purely aesthetic (unless you plan on fitting a front rack) so it's up to you if you can be bothered with taking it back.

And the rear, 'cos I've got old school brake caliper positioning:

Thanks for the pics, great job you've done there. Yours is the Day One as well right? Love the colour. Well I took my bike in this morning and said that I wasn't pleased with the way it's been done and would like it to be symmetry. I menioned about the M4 or M5 bolts which he knew I was on about. Half an hour later and here's the result. Why it wasn't done like this in the first place I don't know cause this is the original stay but he used another as the originals have the quick release in the middle which the one one the right hand side had. Just needed to bend the wire a touch near the bolt. So over all very happy now and love the way my bike looks with the guards.

Mine's a CdF, but they're very similar. I see they haven't put a spacer on the front bolt. What's holding it in to the mount? I think I'd at least want to put a locknut on it or something.

Yes 7 days per week but obviously closing a bit earlier on a Sunday. Just had a look now and there's a small nut on other side of stay that's holding it tight.

Plan B looks much better. I suspect that the first fitting was either an error of judgement or a good old cock up by someone inexperienced botching the job & making it fit to the wrong eyelet on the fork, with the shop then taking a chance that you'd be fobbed off by a bit of friendly chat.

Personally that would set alarm bells ringing with me about them that A) they would do it like that in the first place, everyone is entitled to a mistake, as long as they fix it when they realise they've made one. So more concerning to me is B) they passed it back to you clearly not correct, them knowing it is not correct and left it up to you to ask them to do it right.

Have you any other bike shops near enough to use as your local?

Have a look at the picture again. I'd be amazed if the top part of the stay was still long enough to reach as far as the mudguard, when attached to the mudguard eye on the drop out, where it should be. Part of the stay has clearly been trimmed, and I don't even need to hold a ruler up to the screen to see that. How many night caps have you had?

I was looking at this picture and you are correct in your assumption of the amount of night cap's........... ,

They're a very reputable bike shop and even though they were fitted like they were in the first place, I was told that if not happy then just bring it back in of which I did and was not a problem at all for them to do. So as far as the customer service goes an A + there. Having purchased my bike from them I'll continue to use there services and yes there are other bike shops near us but mistakes or error of judgements can be made anywhere. He even shortened all the stays at my request as they were looking like mini antennas.

My front mudguards were routed underneath the front brake, with no outward or inward bend.
I prefer to cut the stays for minimal length poking up above the captive bolts on the 'guards, mainly for crash safety. Also, round off any cut ends with a file, for when the plastic caps come off.
