Explains itself. Chain rings were fine no bending at all

On the hunt for parts I went to Halfords, they informed me they cant order in chainring bolts and to try a LBS.

Drove upto Decathlon they never had any either but the Bike mechanic went away and found an old crank and stripped the bolts off it for me, for FREE. As the boy went to the bother I gave him a fiver.

Top marks to Decathlon, seem to hire boys that are genuinely interested in bikes, and even more to his credit he was a former Halfords employee.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Good service at Decathlon - top marks - as you say! Chainring bolts easily available on line too.

It begs the question "Did you not have some inkling that all was not right with the transmission?"

Thought my gears needed adjusting, had been having trouble changing into top chainring previous day but assumed it was an adjustment issue.

I realise I should have looked a bit more into it, but this is how we learn I guess. Im guessing a few of the bolts had been there at the start of my journey but 30 mile later all was not so well. Never for a minute thought those would ever come loose tbh. On with a little loctite now.

I reckon the bike has only done 500 mile in its life and ive done 400 of those, should have got it serviced when I got it.

Mind it does not do any harm to check all you nuts and bolts once a week, loctite or not, best way to beat sods law, cos they always seem to fail at the most inappropriate time.

Some of the bolts holding the crank arm onto the chain rings had come out, allowing the chain to get behind. Only the top bolt remains on, so if that had come out as well, the whole crank & pedal would have fallen away.
