I once bought a bike from Toys R Us that had a few faults. They were "fixed" but reoccured again. After the second time of them being "fixed" and the problems still persisting, I took it back for a refund.

First they said they could only fix it (and as the bike was faulty, the faults couldn't be fixed properly), then they said they could only offer a credit note. I'd paid cash, so told them I knew my rights and was entitled to a full refund (I don't really know my rights, but saying I do means I have never not managed to get a refund for faulty goods:laugh:). I got a refund and bought a bike at a bike shop for £80. It was really chunky, but lasted me a few years, and my brother used it to travel from Manchester to Southampton with no problems. I did loose a nut on it, but that was replaced with a Spanish peseta!

I haven't had chance to look at the bike all weekend and so have only just tried the techniques in the adjustment video. I couldn't understand why adjusting the B screw was having no effect so I pushed it up with my thumb so I could see the clearance between the screw and the stop and then wound the screw in. As I gently placed the stop on the screw I watched the screw disappear back into the housing. The f***ing thread is stripped! I am beginning to believe this is some kind of joke, so now I will have to get the train in to work tomorrow and then take another 15 mile round trip to Halfords when I get home. Somebody somewhere is taking the p*ss.

Lee, I suggest that you seek out your local reputable local bike store (LBS) and start a business relationship with them. More local, infinitlymore knowledgeable that a grease monkey in Halfrauds/Bike-shut, and someone in the LBS will actually ride a bike (and not just a BMX to & from work!!).

Get to Halfrauds to get the dereailleur sorted, but then never darken the door again!

I'd agree with going to an LBS for work done. I contacted them about the derailleur and although they didn't have a new bike they did have the mech in and would fit it when I got there.

They didn't have one when I got there so took one off the display model. After fitting it and testing a few times I took it home. I didn't have much faith in the lad who fitted it but it was late and I tghought I could set up the gears myself.

I rode into work the next day and it wasn't right and was making a catching noise, I assumed the front derailleur wanted adjusting. When I looked when I got to work he had threaded the chain around the mech incorrectly and was rubbing on the outer bracket.;) I must admit that is one thing I didn't look for when I took it home. The chain isn't damaged but it has worn a groove in the bracket which is going to rust. i stripped it and put it the right way round and it was ok. Unbelieveable.

I have contacted the customer services now to have the right mech sent to the Glossop store and have it replaced and that I don't want to go back to the original store. It is only a little groove but thats not the point, I also said I want some compensation for the p**s poor service I have recieved although I am not holding my breath.

On a brighter note, I set the bike up myself last night and this morning clocked up a PB of 20.17 on the commute to work.
