There is a small amount of play on my none drive side crank that I can't eliminate with refitting

Is it likely to be the arm or BB spindle ? Would pics help ?

I suppose realistically its wear in the crank. Assuming the crank bolt is tightened correctly (which i'm sure it is), the BB axle is unlikely to wear, it'll always be the inner surface of the crank.
Have you got a spare old crank you can substitute, just to see if it tightens properly, just to prove it.

Are you holding both cranks and rocking them or just the one. If when holding both cranks their is rocking then it is almost certainly the BB. Just one arm and as has been said it could well be wear in the arm socket.

It's just the none drive side that rocks mate - there's no play on the other crank

Ok. Good news. Is it a HollowTech II BB? If so how long is the crank arm?

Edit

I ask as I have a Shimano Deore XT HTII arm you can have for £5 +PnP

Don't think so

Can you tell from this ?
