I hate loud noises of any kind. I can sympathise and empathise with those who have to put up with it. We've had years of noisy neighbours on one side and the neighbours on the other side who complain about our dog barking when he's set off by the noisy neighbours. How i'd love to live in a detached house away from it all!!

I can sympathise with this too. I love peace and quiet, and have to get my fix of it occasionally for my own sanity, usually it involves going out and sitting in my car on a river bank or up on the moors etc, I certainly don`t get it at home, even though I live alone.

I live in a small cluster of houses, and the first issue is that we have an A road running behind us, this used to go quiet in the evenings after about 10pm, but no more - it`s round the bloody clock.

My adjoining neighbours (my house is a semi) are as good as gold, they never make any noise whatsoever. That`s where the good ends. The rest of them are power tool/diy mad, it`s non stop angle grinders, drills, jet washes, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, those leaf blower things etc etc etc, and a totally ignorant sod across the road who has an old car in his garage that he never drives, he reverses the bloody thing out on a Saturday morning and spends the weekend just revving it up and standing looking at it.

Eventually once this lot shuts up there are about half a dozen farm dogs barking about 300 yards up the road, again non stop.

I`ve fancied living somewhere more remote/peaceful for a long time and will get there one day, it`s my ambition for the future! Just to be able to sit peacefully in the garden, it`s a luxury I don`t have, sitting in my garden now is like sitting on the hard shoulder of the M1

Ironic in a way, in the picture the road is the best part of a mile(in a straight line) away. But the cars on the road annoy me more than cows 30 foot from the window, when there. Over here, it's the cows in the field a quarter mile away I hear more, that annoys me.

*Cough* my cycling buddy has a VERY loud and expensive hifi system and loves his music. He lives in a big Victorian end terrace and his only neighbour is a very tolerant lady but one fine day when he had the music on loud she came apologetically to the door and asked him if he would care to nip into her lounge to understand why she couldn't actually hear her TV. He was rather shocked and has now started checking whether she's in or out before playing loud music. I told him they ought to have a "Neighbour is in" flag she can show in her bay window, like the Doctor in the Peanuts cartoons.

I've always wondered how much my Violin carries into neighbouring houses. It is measured at around 100db at my ear, but that is only a few inches away, and being higher frequencies too.

However, I am mindful of neighbours, I don't play before 10am, and I don't play after 8pm, or 9pm with a mute, and generally no more than 1 hour at a time, some times 2x 1 hour sessions if I'm off work. Occasionally playing in the garden if it's sunny out.

I've not had complaints, but also haven't asked either.
