out for a drive yesterday with the other half,(in the car), going up quite a steep hillwith a 90 degree right hand bend.on the bend a side road junction on my left. imagine my surprise, horror when approx ten cyclists, some of whom were riding two abreast, came speeding out of the junction immediatly in front of me . NOT ONE OF THEM EVEN LOOKED never mind stop and give way .
all of them in the same black shorts and dark blue tops ,obviously a club ,but no name on their tops ,so cant name and shame but was in the orrell/upholland area of wigan . obviosly this resulted in an ear bashing from the misses about cyclist behaviour on the roads  i did try to tell her we dont all behave that way

Cyclists riding in groups does seem to engender this kind of poor behaviour.
What club was this?
Name and shame.

Riding two abreast isn't a problem and sometimes its even better but barrelling out of a junction without looking is!

It's even worse when a cyclist does it to another cyclist! I had a pair of jokers in what looked like club kit do that to me back in the summer - nearly sent me flying! I shouted at them to "watch out!" and one of them just looked at me and eyeballed me before they both sprinted off in an, "I am superior to you because my carbon-fibre/aircraft-grade-titanium left-hand pedal is worth more than your house", kind of a way.

I went out for a spin on sunday and there was alot of lyra clad cyclists about (cos sunday i guess) and one big group near chipperfield , non of whom displayed the faintest sign of reciprocating my freindly advances. Which is a pity. Everyone seemed to be going in the opposite direction to me as i neither passed or overtook anybody. I wonder how passing a club group stacks up in scr tems - more a masacre than a scalping. Shoudnt think like that i know but really being polite costs nothing .

I used to get blanked by roadies when I rode my hybrid. Now I've got a road bike, they practically get off and give me a cuddle. It's nice really, but it's a shame you have to have 'the right bike' in order to pass the time of day.

I've been finding a lot of anti snobbery lately (if thats the correct term), when I'm on a hybrid practically everbody (except those in the centre of Edinburgh) say hi back to me, but when I'm on a road bike a lot of folk on hybrids blank me

Had a whole bunch do a similar thing to me a year ago. The first two was bad enough but the 20 that followed where unbelievable. Nearly ended up having a head on with another car.

They all then cut up another car turning right with equally little warning.

I stopped and rang the police but don't know if it was followed up or even if it could be as they were getting a fair pace on.

It's just annoying that in some drivers minds we all get tarred with the same brush.

When I first moved over this way, I used to say hi to other cyclists on my commute to Cambridge but it's clearly not the done thing around there as they would usually look at me as if I were completely mental. It never really bothered me, but you can feel like a bit of a tit sometimes, so now I just completely ignore everyone just like the locals. When I'm back in Norfolk, it all seems very different and a lot friendlier to me.

I am going to be riding in a group tomorrow. There is normally about 10-15 of us. We use mainly country roads and are polite as possible. There are not many cycle clubs near me (just 2) but we all know how to ride on the road properly.

This is the sort of thing that I came across a lot of over the last 20 or so years or driving around the country. Large club 'races' where the riders don't give a toss about the rules of the road, the safety of themselves or others and treat the roads as their own private race track. One could say that they are not cyclists but HSOs (human shaped objects) on bikes.

It is one reason why I ride a battered 1970's Hungarian folder and never wear lycra and make a point of riding legally and safely with consideration for other road users.

That is sooooo true. I live in the North West but my sister lives in Cromer (Norfolk) and everyone very friendly and always say hello there. Nice county coz theres no hills!!!!!!

On the points of the 'idiots'.... Well they sound a right bunch don't they???. Its the likes of them that give the rest of us a bad name....

I do touring with a bike and kit that is probably cheaper than some of the club-riders front wheel!!! But most are nice enough and give a wave etc....But alas you do always get the odd one! Had one pratt when i went over 'Snake Pass' fully loaded and when i got to summit a 'pro' was there. Approached him and said hello,he looked me up and down as if to say 'don't talk to me?' Stuffy sod.... He had left his riding crew half-way up! When they showed up they spoke to me and very were nice... (i was wearing t-shirt,no helmet and combat trousers!) They were impressed i had got up there with all that weight!!! Took some pics too; The 'pratt' stayed away during this and then shouted them over. They all set off with everyone shouting back good luck messages(except him!). I set off 10 mins later and came across the 'pratt' fixing a puncture!!!! INSTANT KARMA!!!!!
