AGAIN there is no such organisation as CYCLING UK

President: Jon Snow
Chief Executive: Sarah Mitchell
Cycling UK is a trading name of Cyclists' Touring Club (CTC) a company limited by guarantee, registered in England no: 25185. Registered as a charity in England and Wales charity no: 1147607 and in Scotland charity no: SC042541. Registered office: Parklands, Railton Road, Guildford, Surrey GU2 9JX.

But it is a trading name of The Cyclist Touring Club, which in itself is a limited company.

Sorry I don't know what AICMFP means but, [...]
And I Claim My Five Pounds, as said when you spotted a tabloid newspaper "celebrity"/mascot in your town: Lobby Lud, Chalkie White, or whoever. I think @Drago worked or grew up among the tabloid classes.

Discount is only to attract new members.
It says it's "valid on new gift memberships only" but surely all gift memberships are new ones unless you've bought someone one before? It's not clear to me what they'll do if you bought an existing member a new gift membership: when the previous-member recipient signs in to their new membership, would CTC t/a CUK really chase them or the giver for the 30% discount?

I went a few steps into the process to see if they could be trying to detect gifts being given to existing members and it does ask for the recipient's name, address, email, birthdate and more, so maybe they could. Interestingly, there's nothing on that page warning the giver that they should have the recipient's consent before handing over their personal data. I think that could land CTC t/a CUK in trouble with the Information Commissioner if anyone pushed it.

Exactly, OP is comparing apples and oranges. How can you compare a new/gift membership with a renewal. It's completely different to any age related discount.

From what I can see British Cycling and the TLI also don't offer an OAP membership discount. Why does the OP continue to single out CUK?

As an aside, when my broadband came up for renewal I noticed new customers could get it significantly cheaper, so I enquired why this discount wasn't available to me, but apparently it was so I got the discounted rate.

LCC wasn't mentioned in the post to which you replied.

Before I saw consessions are not included for this gift membership I did wonder if I could gift myself a code and use it to renew, I'd probably have to let my membership lapse for a day before using it. That might still be an option for people.

AFAIR the London Cycling Campaign still offer an OAP discount. Fine if you live in London or are just interested in the included insurance. Hence with the ending of CyclingUK associate membership - I defected to avoid a very steep increase.

That may be why they are offering 30% off.

Cycling UK may have some good points but accuracy and attention to detail are not among them.

18 months ago I pointed out to them that a pic in their Simple Bike Maintenance Guides was reversed and likely to mislead or puzzle beginners. It was of a rear derailleur on a bike with a purple frame, and the same pic appeared in two or three separate places on the website eg Repairing a puncture and Adjusting your gears. A courteous reply by them was not translated to a simple correction of the reversed images. Follow their link to the pdfs at the bottom of this page.
