I see you've finally bought yourself a child seat for the bike Gaz, what model is it?

Its a hamax 'Kiss' model...halfords had the posher tilting version but i got the cheaper version from my local LBS £20 less than halfrauds were charging

Concern for her parents wellbeing in a foreign land could have put an unnecessary extra pressure on Miss Cooke. Perhaps she was better able to concentrate on the job in hand knowing that her parents would be comfortably seated on their sofa at home.;)

iirc nicole's parents were responsible for taking her all over europe for the junior races early in her career. they have more than done their bit, and when not even athlete's wags are necessarily present, i can see why they felt that 2 24 hour plane journies to watch 2 events was beyond the call of duty.

So if your eldest was in with a shout in the Olympic road race then you would be sat at home on the sofa?

Same as mine, am thinking of upgrading though as it doesn't recline or provide any head support when she, inevitably, dozes off. They are good value for money though and when I came off my bike last winter on ice she didn't even hurt herself even though she had taken her helmet off as the seat provided enough protection on its own.

Oh dear, I see to have touched a nerve with some of the people on here, all of who seem to come either from the North of England or Scotland. Very telling!

Was your 'speaking as a southerner' comment supposed to make sense?

Anyway, isn't Nicole Cooke from Bridgend? That's south as far as I am concerned. She is from nearer to you than me!

What ated may or may not do is his call. Same for you. You can't really judge others by what you might do. Perhaps Nicole did not want her parents there. Who knows? Whatever the truth of it, I'm certainly not going to be critical over someone's personal decision. It's not for me to do so.

Back to the film clip, she comes over very well as she has in other times I've seen her on TV or read about her in the press. A roll model for all aspiring athletes whether it's cycling or another sport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounded as though she was from New South Wales!

Good interview (apart from the village interviewer who didn't think it was necessary for the watching public to hear his questions!).

She came across as a down-to-earth, girl-next-door type (which I'm sure she is to someone ;)).

A very worthy winner and a credit to her sport and country - Wales & GB!

Sport at that level is just a job, do your mum and dad come to watch when some crisis develops at your work?

Bollox, are you seriously telling me that winning a gold Olympic medal and becoming world famous overnight is all in a days work? Nothing special?

Some Olympic medallists remain in the spotlight, others fade in to obscurity. I can see reasons for the parents not going, but without knowing the family we can only guess.
