Hi there, i've just got myself a Ribble Stealth V1 frame and need some help if anyone would be so kind....
The bike is naked and I'm starting from scratch having not built a bike in years.
Some questions:-
1. the whole bottom bracket thing is confusing. I'm an engineer so can figure out I need a bottom bracket but what size would I use. I assume there are two types; 1. Where the crank is complete with a shaft and you install the BB which has internal bearing and use a special tool to tighten 2. The BB has a shaft running through it with a square taper either end on to which you press a suitable crank and tighten it on. Can you please advise on what would be best , what thread i need to get etc.
2. The stealth has a bracket for the front deraillier, but i'm only familiar with a clamp on tube type. Again what should I go for here?
All the rest seems fine.
Thanks, Andy

There's a third type of BB where the bearings are pressed in (BB30 etc). If the BB is threaded then it will probably be 68mm english thread, but there are other widths/threadings. If you're going for a cartridge type, then you need to get one that matches your chainset in length and type. The type of front mech you need is 'braze-on' as opposed to 'band-on'

Thanks, the snail, some good info their to help me build up my knowledge. I was hoping to pickup Shimano black 105 parts maybe second hand but it maybe better just to buy a Groupset new with everything i need. Those i've seen seem to come with the BB30 type you suggest so I've seen talk of using an adaptor to get to the 68mm English.
So just to confirm we have three BB types then...
1. You basically have a three segment, two bearings either side and a basic shaft piece to act as a protective sleeve i suppose to the crank shaft that runs through it
2. You have two bearings and a shaft that you install through that with the square tapered ends.
3. You have a fully sealed cartridge that has the tapered square ends and must screw in one end and have a tightening ring the other.
Ok I'm making progress... I've posted on technical also.
