I am wanting to buy my first bike as an adult and need some help! I am 5ft 7" ish and will be using it for small trips round the village and to town and occasional bike rides round country parks.

I don't want to spend much as wont use it often. I have seen the Apollo Haze Womens Hybrid Bike 17" on offer at Halfords for £139, is this a good deal?

Thanks

Hi and Welcome!
For what you describe I would say that's a sensible choice at a very good price. I can't comment on whether 17" is the right size for you, you'll have to get them to set one up for you to see how it feels.

Looks like a sensible choice, good savings on the full price plus it's geared towards just the purposes you list. As for size, I'm 5' 9" and using an 18" frame, I've had to raise the seatpost a bit as I've got a 32" inside leg, otherwise fine. At your height and the frame height you should be fine, just raise up the seat a little to your liking, and you're off! :-)

Oh, and welcome to the forums by the way

That doesn't look bad as a bike for light occasional use. Have a look also in Decathlon, if there's one near you. I've seen their entry level bikes and they are pretty damn good at the price. I wouldn't want to hammer them round the red run at Dalby, or commute 10 miles a day (they wouldn't last very long under those conditions) but for towpath exploring in the summer they are OK, like the one you have earmarked. At 5'7 a 17 sounds "about" right and this is the most important thing.

Thank you everyone! I will go and give that one a measure up!

be careful of halfords bikes as i brought one for £200 for my 10 year old and had to take it back 3 times 1st back wheel fell off then front mech fell off into pedals and got wrecked ,last and hopefully no more the left side pedal fell when out for a ride , lucky for him him he was not going to fast . halfords did all the repairs and said sorry and rechecked everthing on the bike and since then no moer problems . i would say if you have a limted amount of cash look for a second hand one as you get more bike for your money . if you do go to halfords good luck.

Sounds like not so much the bike's fault but a poor initial set-up - especially concerning things not being tightened properly.
