There's plenty of anecdotal evidence out there that would refute your statement. If you consider that foolish , then so be it.
Just trying to give Dan (the OP) my opinion, I'm so very sorry if it's not the same as yours, I thought that was what forums were about.

I agree about the sprung saddles, wouldn't want to go further than the shops on one though. Most comfy saddle for me=Brooks B17

If you're looking for a means to record your progress and you have a smart phone then the Strava app is good for doing this.

Took a week or so for my " fat-ass" to get use to my saddle , Just stick with it . Make sure you give some time for the sore part to heal. put some E45 down there to help it along.

Regardless of what saddle it is I'm sure your butt will get use to it.
