Hi All,
Great site and full of fantastic information ... did try a search but as usual i got confused with finding the answers to my questions ... Bit of a novice rider and only got back on the bike about 2 months ago after many many years lay off ...

So anyway here are my questions .....

I currently have a triban3 and its been great to me but would like to get some replacement wheelsets etc to use during the winter months.
What i want to do is have the replacement wheelsets (700c still to buy) with tubes and tyres already on them (have these already) and also the rear cassette installed.
The wheelset isn't a problem as i think i know what i want here (Shimano compatible) my existing Cassette on the triban3 is an 8 speed 12-25 ....

so will any shimano compatible 8 speed 12-25 cassette be ok to use ?
Will i need any additional items eg Rim tape, Lockring etc ?

Much appreciated

Any shimano 8 speed cassette is fine, and it comes with a lock ring. Depending upon wheelset, you may need rim tape.

Why not use the Triban 3 wheels in winter but buy a better set - e.g. Mavic Aksiums ?

One thing you do need to remember is that different makes of hub can have a slightly different cassette alignment - i.e. you may need to re-align the indexing slightly by a few turns of the adjusters.

Thanks for the info .... actually thats a good idea regarding the wheels .... use the triban3 wheels during the winter

When you say the adjusters do you mean the adjuster barrel or the tension adjuster as below

To adjust the gear setting slightly you use the adjusting barrel: put the gear into the middle of the cassette and look at it from behind. The dérailleur should hang down vertically. If not turn the barrel one click at a time: screw in to move the chain outward, out for in inward movement. The limit stops prevent the chain from being drawn over the small sprocket (high) or into the spokes (low). Any adjustment needed here would be done a quarter turn at a time, with the chain on the appropriate sprocket so as the chain can be observed from behind again. It may not need any of this adjustment.
