Hi. I am thinking of replacing the wheels on my Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon Mirage, with a set of Fulcrum Racing 7's. Anyone got these wheels plaese and how doyou rate them please? They seem like a very good value for money wheel. Thanks in advance for any replies ;)

I bought a set of Fulcrum 7's at the start of summer, when my existing back wheel exploded.

Used them for daily commuting and longer rides with no problems at all. I'm a big bloke (15st) and ride in Kirklees, where the roads can best be described as a series of potholes loosely connected by broken tarmac....;)

Other than the incredibly loud noise from the freewheel they've been brilliant. Stiff, responsive and definately worth the very reasonable price for the set. Oh, and they're a really nice red colour too

I've not got them but I'd rate the Mavic Aksiums too. I'm 15.5 stones and have been riding on them since May when I bought them to replace the Alex DA22s on my SCR2 which had been breaking spokes after a week.

They've coped well with my weight and the rather poorly-maintained, potholed, sunken-drain-cover'ed roads in Edinburgh / Leith. Still have all the spokes intact and the wheels are still as true as the day I bought them.

There are quite a few options in this bracket. I fitted a pair Shimano 560's to my commuter/winter bike about 18 months ago - a good cheapish wheel and it has survived without needing any attention in the intervening period.

What do you use for your commuter/winter bike?

It is a 2nd hand Ribble alu winter bike. I think the frame is about 5 yrs old. I have replaced most parts and I think only the frame is the original from the bike I bought from a forum advert about 3 years ago. It is a remarkably good winter bike and although not the lightest, I really enjoy riding it.

Thanks for that. I'm looking for a commute/winter bike myself. I think I need something a bit more robust than a normal road bike, as some of the cycle paths here have somewhat poorly paved surfaces. I was thinking about a cyclocross bike with road tyres (the Cannondale with 105 looks nice).

Have a look at the Kore Gradient 2 same sort of price band, they were recommended to me by my Lbs when I got rid of my Alex/Formulas. Silky smooth hubs with sealed bearings cnc braking surface. Could feel the difference first ride.

The Fulcrum sevens were the stock wheels on my bike. I've now got a set of Open pro/Centaur handbuilts and I won't be fitting the Fulcrums back on again.

The handbuilts feel lighter and more responsive, a lot easier to accelerate and get up to speed.
