New wheel

I have just bought a new rear wheel from Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op. I wanted a screw on hub road bike wheel that they had on their site. The order was made and next day the wheel arrived. Pity it was a hybrid wheel with a free hub! A quick phone call and the wheel was collected within a couple of hours and the correct wheel delivered the next day. No worries, these things happen. Then I noticed the new wheel as very rough on the spindle, so last night I set to to adjust the bearings before fitting the wheel. No way would the thing adjust correctly. Turned out the spindle was bent. I could have chased the shop again, but I had a spare good spindle so I just replaced it.

I have been wondering lately why we can't do things properly anymore. Everything seems to be a struggle. Things like this don't dissuade me from my rather pessimistic outlook.

Been like that a while i think..
The last two budget wheels i brought (screw on, cheapo wheels) needed to be adjusted before i put them anywhere near a bike.
TBF, they're ok, one set i fitted to my Trek hybrid is still going some years later, which is longer than the original Bontrager wheels lasted.
