Hi everyone,
I have been riding a mountain bike on the weekend on and off now for about a year and am now thinking of progressing to road bikes for my commute to work. I live 17 miles away from work, 15 of which is pretty flat dual carriage way. My question is how long do you think that i would need to be cycling before attempting this and also once a little practised, how long do you think this would take?
Cheers
Nick

Thanks buddy. I suppose the only way to find out is to try! I need to buy a bike now then!

Would you be happy cycling the dual carriageway? Many people choose to bike a different route than they would use in a car, I often do.

One other suggestion is to transport bike in car to work and cycle home, then back the next morning. Do that a few times to progress to there and back. 34 miles is a long commute, even if it's flat, the trick is to build up slowly.

Well i was planning to cycle the dual carriage way because the alternative route is very hilly. I did plan to do what you suggested actually, drive to work, cycle home, cycle in, drive home. What i need now is for you guys to have a look at my other posts and give me a shopping list for £600.
cheers
