So I collected my road bike today, and after 10k I got my first puncture.

Anyone use gatorskins? Are they good tyres or shall I invest in some tubes with slime in?

Any advice appreciated

Ps I have the bug already

Fast and careful!
Good rolling tyre some say a bit slippy in the wet, i have folders on my carbon bike and wired on my flat bar commute,
Good puncture resistance ,I like them ,done good by me

I use Gatorskins on both my bikes and I won't use anything else nowadays TBH

I'd avoid slime, it messes your valves up IME

So good tyres and consistent tyre pressures, (check regularly), job's a good 'un

PS: most stock tyres are usually pretty poor quality IME. I usually change tyres as soon as I get a bike just for some peace of mind.

The tyres are just what came on the bike, pressures were spot on as I only just got the bike and they were checked.

I'll invest in a set thanks

I have had three flats since last friday. Tonight I got annoyed and ordered a pair of Maxxis Re-Fuse road bike training tires and a pair of Mr. Tuffy bicycle tire liners. I also got about 200 more dollars worth of small items I have been wanting for a while. I should be set for a while now. The Garmin 500 I have been wanting might have to wait until Christmas...but...I have a birthday coming up in about a month...mabye..hmmm.

If you can - have a look at the type of puncture.

There are two main types

a) Thorn or flint working through - puncture protection belt on tyre.

b) Snake bite - you will see two little slits in the tube where the tube has been squeezed due to a pot hole. It helps to pump the tyre up even harder but I do this and still get the occasional puncture.

It was a snake bite, didn't realise the kind of pressure you could put in the tyres, halfrauds only put 60 in !!!

I have put 100 in at the moment, don't think they will take much more. I'm looking to upgrade the tyres at some point, nog sure about gatorskins yet, keep hearing different opinions !

I am 14.5 stone but don't carry a load when commuting

They did tell me there was only 60 in them, but as I'm a complete beginner on a road bike I assumed that would be the correct amount. The tyres that come on the bike seem a big cheap but it is only a low end bike I think

Your tyres should say on the side wall what pressure they can take however 100 psi at your weight should be fine just check the pressure every couple of days
