Guys,

I sold my Allez last year as the weather started to turn, and am turning towards a decent MTB instead of a road bike.

Ive been looking at a Cube AMS Comp Hayes ST 2010. Can anybody view the spec on cycles uk's site and tell me if its worth the money. I like the look of it, and it locks out front and rear for those road rides, but im not sure how goodCube are as a brand, as ive not really heard of them.

Advice appreciated.

I cant help with the spec of the bike as i dont really understand all the techy stuff ... but Cube as a brand seem to be highly respected in the cycling mags

At a quick glance not a bad basic spec with some of it is lower end of the ranges. Deore cranks, shifters, EA30 stuff etc. Not that there's anything wrong with them, will work fine and should give good service. BB and chain rings may be the exception. Also not so sure on the rear shock, would prefer a Fox of some description personally. Brakes are fine as is the Reba. Depending on what your're riding the tyres may need swapping out in that combo. Especially this time of year. Doesn't say what the geometries are but it looks a bit on the racy side. Is that what you want? Get a test ride to make sure.

yeah im pretty into the road riding position, so if it maintains that then ill be ok.

for me £1350 is alot of cash to justify on a cycle, so im hoping its of a good enough spec to warrant the cash. i sat on the bike, and it felt very nice, had adjustment on everything, lock out on both shocks so the rear can be solid, and it felt aggressive, which is what attracted me to it at first.

Any other opinions welcome.

Nowt wrong with Cube bikes. Nice spec, put some money aside to replace stuff at a far greater rate than on your Allez if you are going to off road seriously with it. Course you do, why else would you by a full sus mtb? What style of riding you planning on doing?

£1400 is a lot of cash, but actually not that much to spend on a full boinger. Compared with an Allez it will feel heavy, slow and on the road, will waste energy. Of course off road an Allez is about as much use as a five bar gate so you pays yer money as they say.

Riding position won't be anything like a road bikes, your torso will act like a great big sail.

good info.

im going to do road riding, with some slower trailsor rides through parks etc, but not proper muddy offroading.

I was aiming at a hardtail, but with the full lockout rear suspension i thought it would be a good idea to get a full sus. The price difference in the CUBE range is about £300, so i think its worth the extra for the rear shocker if i ever do fancy a blat off road.

so Cube are pretty good then?

Reading your intended usage for the bike rjkc600 - then I'd say bin the idea of full sus and go for a hardtail. Why pay for something you're going to have locked out half the time?

I'd go for a Cube tomorrow though.

+1 longers. You ride it locked out a lot of the time and you may as well order a new set of suspension bushes when you pick it up. ok I exaggerate but you get the drift. new tyres too. knobblies on tarmac are crap unless it is fresh snow.

I bet the £300 cheaper HT has a better frame and other kit compared with the FS. That's the way it works. You can get a superb HT and I mean SUPERB HT for £1000. They sell them in Halfords : the Boardman HT Pro.

Cube's at the price points we are talking about are excellent bikes and well regarded by the critics who see more bikes in a month than we will ride in a lifetime.

CUBE are nice speced bikes , good value for money .
I'm not too sure if they have an importer head office in the UK. I think its based in HOLLAND ...which can make any warranty problems a bit of a pain.
