When I went to have a look at some of the lucky candidates to have made it to my road bike shortlist this afternoon, the guy in the LBS told me that they'd sold out the Spesh Allez Elite, and that they weren't gonna get any new ones in. He explained that Specialized made a big mistake in estimating how many of these babies they were going to sell, and are now having to bring in new models -- which is supposed to happen in about 5 weeks  I think he said that the same applies to the Tarmac and Roubaix.

Has anyone else heard this? Is it true to or just a rumour? The salesman struck me as reliable and knowledgeable... If it's true, I wonder if it might be worth waiting 5 weeks to see what's new. Getting an 2010 model as early as June seems tempting !

Hm, that's so exciting then. It's quite amazing that two major manufacturers get their estimates so wonky!

Its only in UK - they have underestimated the effect of Cycling sucesses in the Olympics at at the world championships and of course the demand for C2W has been much greater.

We've all seen real cloggers riding > £1k bikes. That's where all the Spesh, Trek, Bianchi, etc have gone.

The 2nd hand market will be be great in 2 years time

There's every chance it'll go bouyant again around July/August when the first of last year's go onto Ebay to make room for this year's fashion statement.

Had the same problem with the Tarmac / Roubaix my LBS told me the same thing, new bikes in around July, Just when your set to purchase a new bike the goal post move, but if it means getting next years spec model it has to be worth the wait,

But realistically, how different or "improved" is say the 2010 Allez or Trek compared with the 2009 model? If you can get the 2009 model now and at a cheaper price, I'd go for it.

Exactly - better to save some money and buy nicer shoes, helmet or clothing

When my bike got stolen I got an upgraded Allez from the insurers and can't say I noticed much. The seat was definitely different as my bum had to get used to it ...and I preferred my old ones colours.
