New Secteur on it's way....what next?

I have a 2010 Elite on order and it should be with me in the next few days. What I'd like advice on is which SPD pedals to fit and which shoes to go with them. I think I'm more of a relaxed sort of rider than a speed merchant and love my comfort. I was thinking along the line of the Specialized BG Sport Touring Shoe coupled with Shimano A530 SPD Single Sided Touring Pedals. Any thoughts on these for Sportives and charity rides?

I have 530s and dhb road shoes and some Lidls mountainbike shoes as well which are easier to walk in .

The whole point of the 530s is if you intend riding the bike in ordinary shoes sometimes. Also you can flip one pedal and ride not clipped in on one side in stop start type traffic.

If you dont plan on ever riding in trainers etc you may as well get the slightly lighter a520 pedal without the platform.

In a few thousand miles I havent had any foot pain or any problems with the pedals at all.

Good Luck, enjoy the new bike.

Thanks for the help. There will indeed be the odd occasion (shops, pub) when I won't bother with cycling shoes and the 530s seem to fit the bill. The touring shoes look nice but should not appear out of place in a Sportive or at a cafe stop on a leisure ride. Neither item are too expensive at this very expensive time of year too.

Chain reaction are doing 10 percent off . I am ordering a second set of 530 pedals for my commuter hybrid bike there about £30 with free delivery at the moment. If you go to chainreaction via the link on cyclechat then cyclechat gets a small commision as well.

Thanks Potsy, but I think the choice I have made will suit my lifestyle a little better. That said, the 520 pedals are cheap enough to buy for my Langster which will in turn enable me to put my M545s onto my MTB. Yes, I think thats what I'll do

good idea Tbb, i bought those as I didn't want to spend loads and find clipless wasn't for me, ended up loving it from the 1st ride and bought another pair for my other bike.

I am also pondering over some winter shoes potsy but have the spd-sl pedals. Might just get some new shoes and continue with the sock+overshoe method but with the temperatures being cold for another three months or so my mind is not made up..

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Get some mudguards so you can cycle and not get mucky ass syndrome through the winter months.

I like crud racers ,very good customer support if you break bits you can replacements for a few stamps !

I have A530s on my Allez and have had no problems. To be honest, once I got used to riding clipped in, I rarely use the flat side but it's useful to have just in case and don't have that many problems clipping in as they seem to natural hang the right way up (if that makes sense  )

I use them with Sidi dominator 5 mtb shoes which have a solid/rigid sole that provides a great platform for the foot, but at the expense of them being no quite as good for walking in as some of the others mentioned.

I'd imagine that the double sided touring pedals are very good and will suit you fine, At present I dont ride clipless (didnt get on with the Look Keo I had) but was considering something like these for my fixed since I use it as a "get around" and dont always want to wear cycling shoes. But..... since I ride fixed, on days when not able or willing to wear cycle specific footwear I wouldnt fancy riding the flat side of touring pedals with no foot retention at all, so at present I ride with track pedals and a pair of "re-strap" footstraps, same idea as power straps, but they dont wreck your everyday shoes, they are highly adjustable and very secure. Not quite as good as clipless for honking it up hills etc, but they are a good compromise.
