Joe, I bought the toupe (gel) £ 79.99 at my lbs at lunchtime today after getting measured on the ass-o-meter which determined I needed the 143 width. I did a 30 miler home from work and it feels so much more comfy than my brooks B17N.

Maybe try a Fizik Arione? I borrowed one from a mate at work as I was having ass pain after 50 miles with an SLR XP. No such issues with the Arione - both road bikes now have one - and Merlin Cycles are doing them for £50.

I'll have a look at the Fizik Arione.
A LBS suggested a Selle Italia saddle. I noticed a few people had one on the club ride yesterday aswell. Going to have a look at them. Mum still not happy about me spending so much on a Toupe.

Ask round at the cycling club what they think. It may be if you adjusted your current saddle it would be more comfortable. Alternatively someone may have rejected as uncomfortable something that is ideal for you. What is an instrument of torture for one may be just the job for another.
