Done it. Order placed for the CX an hour ago and will collect it after work tomorrow. I asked them to build it but once collected will take it home and remove the bell lol and other unnecessary shite.
Thought long and hard about road vs CX but the roads I'll be on are pretty crap at the best of times. Shame it's green as need new lycra now
I think padded gloves are worthwhile but spandex nappies and hard hats are more trouble than they're worth.
Well(!) Calling something a "must" that thousands ride without, really!
Only thing I don't like about skid lids in winter (wear one in winter as its a touch warmer) is it makes a mess of the hair, but then so does rain in the summer.I think padded gloves are worthwhile but spandex nappies and hard hats are more trouble than they're worth.
Get some padded lycra shorts is a must ( pay a bit more but get better shorts ) Good gloves (and a helmet, if you want) and keep your flat pedals for a month or two.. Happy riding
Took it out this morning for its first run. Did 5.1 miles according to Strava which wasn't too bad for 24 mins work
Hoping to do a bit twice a week and go from there really!
Bike seems fine, maybe a very small adjustment needed on the front derailleur as the gear change is "hanging" for a little too long so will look at this and see what can be done.
Otherwise, all in all, I think it seems a good purchase
Yep, quarter to half turn or so of the barrel adjuster should sort that out.The cables will stretch when new but a few adjustment should put it right. Enjoy
No way I would go with Boardman, check Felt out... https://www.merlincycles.com/felt-z95-disc-road-bike-2016-86932.html...currently £575 for an £800 bike...Merlin far better than Halfords!I am looking to get a new road bike so I can start getting some miles under my belt. I currently have a mountain bike and what a pain it is on the road! I want something a little more road friendly without changing wheels, etc on my current bike so I have convinced myself a 2nd bike is necessary!
Now, not looking for anything pro, etc but do like the look of this http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/boardman-road-comp-bike and it matches my lycra
I'll build it myself though as I don't like the stories I hear about Halfords build service!
Do we think it's a good deal? Seems to have some fairly decent specs as well as disc brakes!
The other one I considered was http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/boardman-cx-comp-bike and then changing the tyres to road tyres and keeping the CX ones of winter.
I appreciate it isn't from my LBS but the ones near to me seem to be useless so would rather use Halfords who are cheaper AND useless.
Any help would be much appreciated.
