Bit more info if anybody is interested.
As I am on the Isle of Wight there was an early start for the 05:45 ferry. Upside was that I got to be on the start line fir the Round the Island yacht race.
After disembarking a quick jaunt through Romsey to Salisbury, then Wilton and to the Wyle Valley. This is great cycle country provided you take the minor road throughout the Langfords from Great Wishford, avoid the A36.
Up to Wyle and then past the back of Longleat to avoid the dual carriageways around Warminster quite hard on this stretch thanks to about 30 miles of force 5 headwinds.
Into Somerset then onto the Frome Shepton road. Could hear the Glastonbury festival from Doulting. Nice sprint from Shepton to Wells which was at 73 miles.
Lunch in the Market square, pot of chicken curry. Short rest then back to Southampton reversing the route. Nice downhills on the way back . Had to be careful in last hour and keep speeds under 20 to make sure legs would make it as they had suffered a bit in the wind.
Missed the 18:00 ferry so had to wait until 19:30. Then a short climb home out if East Cowes.
Fuelled by porridge, wholemeal toast ,two energy bars and three gels, not forgetting the curry!
Good hard day. Had done London to Paris at beginning of June. Couple of sportives to do now. Quite pleased with progress as only been cycling 20 months.
Hope that was of some interest.
