The two KMC chains I had that were fake (my conclusion after they reached 1% wear in around 400-500 miles as opposed to the usual 1500-2000 miles) were oiled on arrival rather than the usual sticky grease coating. I should have realised as soon as I noticed the difference but assumed it was irrelevant. I know better now and ONLY buy chains from Spa Cycles.
