:bicycle:Hi all,

I've been absent from here for a while as we've been goin through the sale of our house and moving into a new place near St Andrews, Leuchars to be exact, so I've been kinda preoccupied with the boring, grown-up stuff and my cycling has been on the back-burner. My eldest son has started to use my bike to get to and from his rugby training, so seeing an opportunity arise, I've bought a Carrera Subway (yes......from Halfords!). I totally love this bike and I must say the mech at Halfords did a good job. I now have a good few months to make up but luckily there's some lovely routes locally and also, because I work on the base here, I can just do laps of the airfield if I fancy which are 5 miles per lap and it's pretty much a closed road. I missed the Glasgow to Edinburgh ride out but that is my goal for next year.
Just one thing tho on the subject of footwear, I'm not ready for shoes and cleats yet so are the Muddy Fox MTB type shoe sold in Sports Direct good value for money. I also don't really fancy clips and straps on the pedals either, I've been advised that they wouldn't fit anyway!
Anyhoo, totally stoked to be back on the road and looking forward to more crack on here !!

Welcome back

I used to live 'across the water' from you in Dundee. You're in a lovely part of the world perfect for exploring. I'd be happy with your bike so glad you're enjoying it.

Lol, nope, wouldn't mind the car tho ;-)

That went a long time ago - this was 1975 (did 100,000 miles though )

I think the house has gone as well - Google Streetview shows this now

The door is on the wrong side  and the street used to be a dead end - I couldn't park out front of the house.

Lived in Cellardyke for a few years after this house - that's a nice trip on the bike - across the country then round the coast.

I live not far from there, Hampden Close is still there although I think the MOD have earmarked those houses to be sold off. Am planning to head out past Tentsmuir to Tayport and loop back to Leuchars via St Michaels once am done with this latest nightshift ;-)

Right troops, what can I say......... Headed out to Tentsmuir this morning and was almost instantly blown away the local beauty of this place. I can't believe how lucky I am to have such superb bike routes right on our doorstep. I think it was maybe 7-8 miles round trip, plenty of time to get to grips with the trigger gear shifters, had twist shifts before. I've started taking more notice of when to change up/down thru the gears making for a more "smoother" ride. I'm seriously thinking about venturing back out again after tea. If any of you guys get the chance to visit North East Fife, you'll love it ;-)

Where you are is perfect for a run along the top of Fife to Newburgh, roads around you are a wee bit hilly in places but plenty of quiet back roads for cycling. Top road out of St Andrews and down to Crail or Anstruther is excellent as well.

Few cycle tracks away from the traffic as well and go over to Dundee and you can cycle along from the Tay bridge past Broughty Ferry and up towards Carnoustie and all the way up past Arbroath Traffic free almost on the cycle route path.

Great wee part of the world around St Andrews, Tentsmuir and Tayport.

Tentsmuir will be good for a traffic free blast about Innes. There's a few clubs about you if you feel you want to go that way but really your spoiled for choice where you are.

If you head back towards Tayport and go under the Tay Bridge through Wormit and up towards Balmerino, the top road will take you along the Tay looking up to Perth, it's beautiful, a bit of a slog in places with the hills but an amazing run along to Newburgh.

You lucky bugger, what a fantastic part of the world. I had the pleasure of RAF Leuchars many moons ago, unfortunately i was into neither cycling or golf at the time, how i wish i could turn the clock back 30 years, i now do both, and live in Leeds :banghead:

Enjoy your surroundings, its even great in the horizontal rain and snow that falls up there.
