Bit of a faceplant on Friday. Thanks to the various people who expressed sympathy, offered help (especially the people in the black VW at Hartside Cafe) etc.

Ouch... what happened?

I was a fud at around 25 mph - a clash of handle bars may have been involved, I'm not sure - but I was the only faller.

Luckily I was wearing a bright yellow T-shirt that is now ripped on the back of the shoulder.

I also had on arm warmers and gloves - all now in shreds. I was less than a mile from a hospital and got cleaned up by a very kind nurse who tended abrasions to head, both shoulders, both elbows, both knees, left shin and left ankle. I had some bruising and swelling to both hands but the gloves saved me from ripping too much skin off them.

I was also just 15 miles into a 180 mile tour through the Pennines. Made it through to Huddersfield just fine though, with no further drama but plenty of funny looks and even funnier comments. If you want an ice breaker when hostelling, smash yourself round the face a bit, it works a treat.

And by the way - normally I only have one chin. Obviously my face was more swollen than I realised, making it look as though my crash was into the branches of the ugly tree rather than tarmac.
