Any serious cyclist near Manchester should be interested in this - a new sportive starting in September 2009.

So many times in the past, all the sportives are booked early and you can't get a place. With this in mind, Bruntwood (Manchester's largest property company) have created a new sportive for the calendar, staring this September.

A team of us from Bruntwood rode Paris Nice last year for the New Childrens Hospital Fund ad we are hoping to add to our efforts with this event. Therefore, ALL THE PROCEEDS GO TO THE NEW CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN MANCHESTER!

There are 2 routes, a 56 mile route through the peaks and a more 'family friendly' 22 mile route along the lanes of Cheshire.

Anyone interested should enroll below, and for more information about Bruntwood's support for this event, click on the 2nd link

Happy riding!

And why does Manchester Children's Hospital need to have funds raised for it? Is it not funded by us anyway in the form of our taxes and NI contributions? What vital equipment will not be purchased if we don't raise money for it? Will the Dept. of Health decide that they don't have to give it the amount of money that charities raise for it on the side?

I know he's sincere and wanting to help and all that but I thought the days of hospitals being run by voluntary (and usually widely publicised) contribution were long gone. The more we do of this, the more the Government will expect us to do and therefore it's ultimately damaging, IMHO.

I assume that the costs are met by the entry fee, so can a rider enter and then raise money for their own chosen charity?

No problems with the money going to Manchester Childrens, but there are childrens services in a lot of hospitals that are overshadowed by the big uns, as an example I was in Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, home of Alder Hey Hospital, and there was a collection being performed for Great Ormond Street.

Weather is supposed to be warm, dry, partly sunny and little or no wind which should make some hill climbing a bit more fun!

Yup, but I was going to go to Uppermill that day and do a route there  Damn things getting in the way of other things.
