New chain, too long?

I fitted a new chain to my bike today and IIRC I ended up removing around 6 links to get it to be the same size as my old chain.

As Ian says, check link by link rather than just the length as your old chain will be longer due to wear and tear. You're looking for the same number of links as your old one.

If you have thrown out the old chain use the Machinehead calculator. Remember your old chain may have been the wrong length anyway.
