After all my other threads and a lot of rain this weekend, i've finally managed to just pop outside with the new bike, add the new white pedals (to set off the black and white) and take a quick picture. More to follow as i add more bits and bobs...

Very nice.

You need to rotate the handlebars a little. the bar end plug should point towards the rear brake or just above it.

Nice, the seatpost looks pretty pimp!

Looks large, you must be very tall!

Cheers Gaz! I've played around with them a little and the picture angle probably doesn't help but i'll have a look at moving them slightly.

Thanks guys! Not sure about very tall, i'm 6"2.

It's okay listening to other people to find a starting point for your bike setup, but ultimately it is your body and that's what you should listen to.

I used to go for the 'correct' bar set up and then I noticed that a lot of pros were tilting their bars back slightly to get a more comfortable position when riding on the hoods. I tried it and found that it eased a lot of the discomfort I was getting in my wrists on long rides.

I'd have guessed that. Your bike is about the same size as mine and I'm a smidge over 6' 1".

It's funny how we aren't really tall these days. I was considered very tall when I was a teenager, and rarely met anyone taller than me. Nowadays tall young men are all over the place. Steve H is about 4 inches taller than me. I have second cousins 6 or 7 inches taller!

I'm taller than both of you (6' 2.5") and I'm sure my bike doesnt look that big, maybe its the angle of the photo or the long headtube geometry.

For reference, I ride Cannondale, a 58cm CAAD9 and a 58cm Slice.

How do you brake in the drops? Probably ok if it's just a small angle, but anything too big and then there is no point having drops.

If you tilt the whole bar assembly back then the brake to bar distance wont change, so assuming the drops are still at an angle that is usable, the brakes shouldn't be an issue.

It does make braking slightly harder from the drops, but I don't have particularly long fingers and I can still manage it. I agree that you don't want the bars tilted back by a huge angle.

Most people who aren't racing spend most of their time riding with their hands on the hoods or the top of the bars. I like to descend and ride into headwinds on the drops, but relax and ride in a more upright position the rest of the time.
