To replace my dura ace brakes I've just picked up a set of these bad boys.
Full carbon brakes from trp, they look amazing... can't wait to try them

Did you not like D.A brakes or did you buy them for bling factor/performance?

I brought them mostly for the weight / performance... I run trp brakes on the Venge and find they modulate better on carbon rim surfaces than dura ace. These ones are going on the tarmac but I would be lying if I said I did not like the bling factor of these, they look really cool imho

+1, they look great, and makes sense. Don't know much about TRP, but I've heard generally good things about them.

I find dura ace to perform really well on traditional rims but on carbon braking surfaces they can feel as if they want to grab a little, specially in the wet. The trp brakes do not seem to suffer from this, I'm a big fan of the products, I find them to be well made and finished and the support for the product is top notch.

Not a bad price too for what you get, but I can't vouch for experience with anything but 105. An old riding buddy had Sampson Stratics SL's on his which he said were powerful and the modulation felt perfect.

Tart. Wouldn't catch me doing anything like that...... even on my old bikes  ^_^

Me I'm a groupset freak, so would have run full set OEM. Did you change the pad compound ?

Not so sure I'd run carbon callipers though ?

Yea, Zipp have a a specific pad for their carbon rims made by swisstop and I use this, anything else I have tried seems to be worse

I would imagine that they are less likely to fail than carbon brake levers which are in widespread use in all of the top groupsets these days. They look ugly IMO though, although the DA calipers are hardly jewellery for a bike (although the latest set look pretty nice). The new SRAM red aerolink brakes however.......... they look great!

The new SRAM red kit looks great I must admit.

May just be about to order a hodgepodge SRAM Red groupset  Mix of 2011 and 2012 SRAM Red and SRAM Red Black, inc the new aerolink brake calipers. Going with a SRAM Force front mech though as it is better than the SRAM Red mech, even the pro's choose Force over Red as the steel cage on Force > the titanium case on Red, shifts better. Not bothering with the latest yaw front mech, exogram chainset and shifter combo, it is limiting in the use of aftermarket parts and mix and matching.

My hodgepodge groupset will still come in at a cracking sub-2kg weight  Throw in some pro-lite wheels coming in at <1500g and finally get round to fitting my Zipp finishing kit and my CAAD will have dropped about 1.5-2kg for not that much money (in the grand scheme of things).

Sounding good.. I was thinking of doing SRAM but I'm not sure I can suffer cable maintenance again which is why I'm doing Di2 again even if its a little heavier. The latest SRAM shifters feel so nice though.
You got a target weight for the whole bike?

Nah, but it has to be less than 8kg with that kit, probably closer to 7.5kg (start putting Ti skewers, seatpost clamps, ti bolts etc and chopping off excess seat post etc, may get it a fair bit lighter still, but I won't be going that far, I just want the best spec for the money). Not all that bothered about weight other than it not being being a tank, the light weight of SRAM is great, but is a side product really of just finding the best bang for the buck and looks a LOT better than the other groupsets.

Basically my CAAD9 is fitted with Tiagra 9 spd throughout (BB30 BB shimmed to take Tiagra chainset), this groupset is fine and I have been happy riding it (mostly) for the last 3 years , but the amount I ride (~40 hours a month_ and the fact the frame is a nice frame and has a BB30 bottom bracket shell I felt like an upgrade at least to Ultegra with a 3rd party BB30 chainset, so I have waited on my Tiagra parts becoming worn to point of needing replacing (chainrings, cassette, chain) to make the upgrade. But when it came down to it, SRAM can not be touched in mechanical groupset terms within my budget. Ofc, the shifting mechanism is personal preference and I may find I prefer Shimano, but I will live with it, it is something I will get used to and not think about after a few rides.

The Zipp finishing kit is not that light, esp for the money, but it seems stiff as hell!

Do you think they'd be any good on steel rims? I'm upgrading my Wayfarer.
