Hello, looking for a new road bike after my hybrid has finally given up the ghost. Looking on various sites there are so many choices that it's not easy knowing where to start. Thinking of a around budget around £1000, so you can get some decent bikes. A friend has mentioned Dolan L'Etape (full carbon) while i had seen a nice Lapierre sensium (again full carbon) both seem well equipped full 105 groupsets,may not have the best wheels but as i will mainly using the bike for fitness and social rides (as and when we're allowed) Wondered if anyone had any thoughts or should i be looking at ally frames and if so any ideas.

@noddy63 welcome
I would suggest contacting your local bike shops and see what they have to offer first and then when allowed go and try and see which one you like and feel comfortable on , it will be hard in the current situation but ask for a short road test .

Where are you based ?

For a £1000, I’d only accept minimum Tiagra and preferably 105 ( well for me it would actually only be the SRAM equivalent). But I wouldn’t want a carbon frame, alu or steel more practical

Seen a Giant Contend SL (Shimano 105) on Pauls Cycles site looks decent, any thoughts ?
Popular bike, pretty common but that may not worry you

Still quite like the look of the Dolan L'Etape and you can get ready-to-ride or customise option and they replied to my e-mails whilst some others have not replied(even in these times 4 days is a long time to wait for a reply)
