New bike- Specialized globe vienna 2/3 or ridgeback velocity?

Hi,
I've been cycling into work on a ~15year old Raleigh "mountain" bike (knobbly tyres) and am looking to upgrade now I've passed my 1 year anniversary of cycling in!
Have been for a test ride of the specialized globe vienna 2 (womens) and it seemed to fit and ride well. Does anyone have any experience of this bike or know of comparable bikes I could try, I was also looking at the ridgeback velocity but that wasn't at the bike shop. I want flat bars, no suspension, otherwise no other requirements. It's only a short commute - 4 miles each way and a longer ride out at weekends.
I don't have the C2W scheme at work, so was hoping to limit the price to <£400.
Thanks!

If you feel comfortable on it, then go for it. From the reports I have seen it is a good choice, for the sort of riding you describe...

Thanks. I went over to the Edinburgh bike shop and tried out the velocity which I really liked too, unfortunately only had an extra small frame, so just waiting until I can try out the proper size before making the decision. Wasn't so keen on the revolution (dodgy colour and some other minor points). Really looking forward to getting a new shiny bike though, my current one is quite hard work!

I've got a Velocity, Ive had it since Mar 07 (6679 miles) and its been a great reliable bike and I love the way it handles. I had to replace the rear wheel at the start of the summer  other than that its only had general maintenance new cassette/ chain/ brake blocks. The original rear tread is just starting to show wear and that will probably need replaced soon but its still had no p'tures. That being said the adjustable quill stem creaks a fair bit when I stand up for climbs. I think the specialized has an ahead set stem and if it feels as good as the ridgeback I'd go for the spesh despite having less gears.
