Well I finally did it, I ordered my first road bike today.

After much deliberation and a couple of sleepless nights the decision is made and my Roubaix Elite will be ready for collection from my LBS on Sunday.....I am very happy!!!

Thanks to everyone on here for the valuable advice it is much appreciated. Can't wait to get out on it now.

Which brings me nicely to my next point. Does anyone know of any shortish, not too difficult runs that would help with the bonding process.

I live in Chandlers Ford in Hampshire and have seen a couple of routes that I could probably have a go at but just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction, web sites, maps etc.

I usually use a combination of google maps (for Streetview) and Bike Route Toaster.

I used to live in So'ton and commute via road (on an mtb) to Colden Common. Can't remember the road names or numbers but you can find some lovely road runs from CC to So'ton which is about 10 miles... you could go to CC and then bomb to Fair Oak, across to and over Bishopstoke which is a nice hill, then get on the Stoneham Lane (I think) to Swaythling and then Portswood, stop for a bite to eat then head back...

Just get on the darn thing and go! I'm sure a £1600 roadster will snap up the miles.
