Hello,
Just joined the forum and just joined cycling!
Decided to ditch my car and start cycling to work and back.
Bought a bike yesterday (Vertigo Carnaby 700c) and took it for a spin this morning, but it is making a strange noise?

Hopefully someone can help me..

bike noise

Thanks in advance

I have had another look and I think it may have something to do with the "derailer" ? Behind the disc slightly catching the chain as it passes

chainring or chain on front dérailleur. Concentrate on the front and look if you can see if anything looks very close to something it shouldn't, like the chain on the dérailleur. If it's the chain, changing gear should change or eliminate the noise.

Had a quick fiddle with it and done what any beginner would do...made it worse!

Now the chain will not shift on the front cog! Theres a bloke round the corner from me I see riding road bikes a fair bit, think he knows his stuff so I may be inclined to knock on his door with a few beers and a nice smile!

I think the intermediate stage is to try doing the opposite to make it unworse. I can never remember which little screw adjusts the inner or outer limits of the dérailleur's travel or which direction to turn it. I believe that this gives me only a 25% chance of getting it right. But by a process of elimination....

A bent chain ring maybe forcing the chain against front mech on every revolution , could even be the BB is bent causing the same effect .

Well got a phone call from the guys at the shop, they had fixed my problem! Apparently when I tried to fix the problem I did make it worse causing some sort of cable to wrap up and tangle? Anyhow they fixed it and aligned all of my breaks for a mere £15. Which resulted in me buying a gel seat and a helmet from there.

However not sure if its just because im fat (no point lieing) or because im unfit (again no point lieing) when im riding my seat is not comfortable between the top of my legs even with the gel seat. So i am hoping some cycling shorts with padding will solve this problem?
