NEW BIKE! :-))))) How to touch up scratches though? :-(

Hi guys.

Just bought a second hand 2010 Specialized Globe Vienna bike. Good price. Its perfect on one side, but may have had an incident on the other as there is one big scratch down the front forks. Then on the back wheel forks too.

I have attached photos as best I can. Please can someone advise as to how to cover them up? I am going to wash it after work tomorrow and give it some TLC.

I would remove the rest of that sticker by heating it with a hairdryer and peeling it off and then use one of the modern car paint restorers, similar to t-cut to polish most of that out and then find a matching rattle can or touch up bottle, again from a car range.

T cut it first some scratches may come out, then get a white touch in pen from a car shop, paint the scratches only with it (cover as little 'good' paint as possible) leave a couple of days then T cut it again then polish ..... hope this helps

Clean it first as per other thread and then touch it up with car wax.

Is that rust though??

I wondered that but it's an alloy bike isn't it, steel doesn't come in such wonderful shapes.

Good point about the alloy.... whatever it is T cut should sort it....

Another tip for T cut use with an old T shirt or vest nice and porous don't use a J cloth or cotton/polyester 'formal' shirt as dirt/grit will sit on the cloth and scratch the paint itself

Fantastic advise guys. Well there is a little bit of orangey/brown - hopefully just surface rust. It will be getting a good wash though and I will de sticker it and assess the damage. Use to use T cut on my old car!

Mind you, they do look like steel forks, so as mdb says, that could be rust. A bit of rustcure should sort it if the polishing doesn't.

Yeah, I think I will take each step as it comes. I know some people use hammerite on cars in cases of rust? I guess this is a no no for bikes.

Where are you? Just had a closer inspection, I have adjusted the seat and attached the drinks holder - But yeah I will wash it tomorrow and sort some T cut out for it.
