I believe SRAM have just rebranded the Avid Products as they have owned Avid for years.

I went for sintered pads and have found that these work well

https://www.uberbikecomponents.com/...-5-7-R-CR-SRAM-XX-X0-Sintered-Disc-Brake-Pads

I find they don't quite last as long as the much more expensive SRAM stuff, but they remain better VFM. They look slightly different but fit perfectly.

However if you want orgasmic oem pads at a good price see here

Nice one thanks for the reply. Why they have totally different pads for sram level system I do not know. If you just typed in sram level pads for the level on a 901 you'd end up with pads that don't even fit.

Much appreciated

I seem to have really varied results with how long my disk pads last on my road bike. Even with the same manufacturer.

I've come to an experience based conclusion (which I appreciate is more anecdotal than anything and happy, as always, for a bit of science to say otherwise!) that there must be some argument for the wrong spraed of grit to get in the wrong place at the wrong time that can just ruin in a pad in days.

I've had pads last 6-9 months of ~100 miles a week and I've had the same pads last less than 2 months of the same riding in the same conditions.

With my commuter roadie which has BB7's with Disco Brake Semi Metallic pads I get about 7-8000 miles before they need changing. I'm pretty tough on the old brakes too.

Not sure what my pads are at the mo other than BB7s. I ride about 100 miles a week and I aim to change them every 6 months although that may be too often (am a bit paranoid about them as they aren't as easily visible as rim brakes)

I know your riding, there's no need to be. You'll know when they have gone alright as you get an awful scraping noise where the spring no longer holds itself against the pad edge.

Won't I just get to the stage where I'm braking with pad backplate?

There's not much depth of friction material on a bike disc pad, so I find it hard to judge wear when the pads are fitted.

I recently changed the front pads on the bike I did the Brighton ride on

A bit of a shock, they were all but down to bare metal.

About 5,000 miles, not bad, given it's a heavy bike (and rider).
