Hello

I ordered a

Specialized Sirrus Sport 2012 Hybrid Bike

It is being delivered on Friday, just a few questions. The tyres are Specialized Nimbus
Flak Jacket Protection, 700x32c
I am 12 stone weight and 5' 9", I will be using the bike mainly 70% canal towpath and the rest on the road, just
for leisure and fitness. I'm new to all this, so if some experienced member could assist, what PSI tyre pressure should
I put in the front and rear tyres.?

I don't have a pump at the moment but want to buy something not too expensive maybe £30 with a PSI gauge and also
so I can carry it in my rucksack when cycling could somebody recommend a good pump that fits this specification.?

What locks could I get, if somebody could give me some names. Theres a Halfords maybe 1.5 miles away from me so
maybe they will stock some good locks and pumps but I don't know which ones are best.?

When I get the new bike, what kind of general servicing can I do myself and how often does it need to be carried out. Are there
any parts of the bike that will need lubricating, if so what and what lubricant do I need for this.?

Sorry if the questions appear silly but I am new to all this, thanks in advance.

Nice bike.

Tyre pressure is partly personal choice but I'd start at 60psi. Although, for 70% towpath and particularly if it's a mud / gravel towpath, I'd be considering wider tyres if the Sirrus Sport will take them.

Pump is easy - get a Topeak Turbo Morph with analogue gauge and fold-out foot rest. Easy pumping, as close as I've yet found to a track pump you can strap to your frame.

Abus D Lock, anything rated 8 or above, £40 to £85.

I am a mechanical clutz but, with the help of a Haynes Bike Manual and YouTube, I do all of the servicing on my own bikes.

Lubricant - I'm not going to touch that (but Finish Line wet will be a good start  ) The bits that need lube are all the bits that move. Mostly the chain but also the gear changers and cogs, a touch on the cables, infrequent greasing of all of the axles. If you have some sympathy and "feel" for the bike and spend a few minutes every week just touching and spinning stuff, you can start to feel when something needs attention.

Agree more or less with what Norm has said. There is no silly question on the forum, if you need info, this is the place to ask.

If I had £30 to spend on a pump I'd get a decent track pump for around £20 to keep at home and a mini pump for £10 to carry with me.
One of the web sellers might offer better value for money, chain reaction, wiggle, etc. Halfords were doing a nice looking track pump for half price (£12.50) a while ago.
