Mr Muscle sink and plug hole unblocker - bit pricey....not sure what Kim and Aggie use though.

We've got a pump that goes over the hole that forces water down. If you get one may i suggest that you block the overflow before you apply the first pump stroke, it's surprising what accumulates in those pipes.

Depends on your trap though, doesn't it?

We have a bottle trap under the bathroom sink - no amount of Mr Muscle (industrial strength or otherwise) unblocks it

Nothing short of a full dismantle job required - unpleasant, I think so !

My pal swears by the H2SO4 (from his local builder merchants, though you can buy it from Robert Dyas if you have one) - which should be OK provide all your fittings are plastic (FLW)

Washing soda. Cheap as chips and does a brilliant job. Pour as much as you can into the plughole, leave it overnight and then pour a kettlefull of boiling water down.

If you can then remember to do this once a month or so you'll never have a slow running plughole again.

Never fails.

I use my plunger :becool:
Seriously though, sink plunger usually does the biz. Occasionally dismantle and clear out (not using the sink you've just taken the pipes off, of course!). Yes, can be unpleasant, but I'm not the squeamish sort.

Caustic Soda, but be careful not to get it on your hands.

A friend at work showed me the burns after he used caustic soda on his drain and he stuck his arm in to give it a poke at the weekend. He's got scabs up to the elbow.
The idiot.

I'd try removing drain trap first, if its a bottle type the base of it will just unscrew, before using any chemicals.
One-shot is good, however I had a large problem with the stuff when I tried it on a shower drain in the ensuite (very difficult o get to the trap).

Poured the one shot down the drain, it fizzes a bit then the accumulate water disappears. Run the shower for a few seconds - looks clear :becool:.
So I get undressed and have a shower.
Get out an hear this dripping noise, WTF? Wrap towel around me and run downstairs - water cascading everywhere through the ceiling and down hallway light fitting AAAHHH!!
Grab mop & bucket and start furiously mopping whilst trying to keep towel about myself due to the glass external door (laminate floor so I know it will not appreciate getting wet from previous kitchen experiences). Water is still dripping down on my towel clad self. It starts to sting. It starts stinging more - oooowww. Must till have 'one-shot' in it. Run back up to get in the shower, errrr...NO, can't do that now - head for the bath and try to get 6' 2" 16st under the tap (its really, really smarting now). Quick wash off and back to the mopping. Then another tip to the bath.

Later investigations revealed a flexible pipe under the shower had actually been dissolved, thus the 'blockage' clearing. Had the consistency of a plastic milk carton (the rest of the drain piping was fine). The episode cost a new laminate floor (edges started to lift) and we sill have a slight bulge in the hallway ceiling where the plaster has sagged slightly. I'm also still not sure of the long term effects the acid soaking has had on flooring and supports upstairs.

Sink should be easy enough to take the trap apart.
Shower however where the most crap accumlates is more difficult to access.

Those washing suds work for me though - always have a cheap box which does a lot of cleaning around the house.
