I'm looking to buy a cross bike and the only way i'll get permission from Mrs L is to sell one of my current bikes to make way. I don't want to sell any of my road bikes which leaves my hybrid. It's the cheapest of the bikes i own, and has been well used.

It's a Merida Crossway 40d 2010 model. I can't remember exactly what i paid for it but i seem to remember £420. It's done 1409 miles in total (i keep a log hence the accuracy!) most of which are on a rough canal tow path. It's got all the original components so some of which will have some wear on them but it's been well maintained.

Problem is i've no idea about it's current value. There's no point selling it if i'm only gonna get £50 for it, but if i thought it'd pull in £200 i'd use that as a decent deposit for a new cross bike.

I'm not a 2nd hand bike expert but I've heard it mentioned that a bike loses 50% in first year and 10% there after.

I sold a £450 Specialized Crosstrail for around £250, in pretty much perfect nick, done about 300 miles, left a £100 Polar HRM/computer on it...didn't end up with that much as sold on eBay (grrr, fees and paypal), wanted a quicker sale than you get on here (I wasn't using it)...I bought via C2W so the hit wasn't as big

I'd say £150-200 is a decent place to start for your bike assuming it's in good nick - stick it on here and local Gumtree (if eBay, you'll have a bigger audience but you'll lose 10% ish)
