im getting a garmin 810 as well, may was well let the c2w scheme pay for this, only thing is mudguards, do i just use ordinary mtb mudguards, like crudpack ones or will they be too chunky and look stupid, it is just a mtb frame with skinny wheels right ?

Do you need front suspension on your commute?

to be fair, i dont think so, i have my mtb locked out, its mainly all roads and a couple of paths ( before i get jumped on, theres been roadworks on a couple of roads and they have moved the bike lane to the paths whilst the roadworks are there )

In which case look at a rigid hybrid, to save weight and faff. Fat tyres and carbon fork would be a better combination unless you are riding on stuff where you need to absorb big hits.

If you're looking to fit permanent mudguards, SKS Chromoplastics will fit that bike (or a similar non suspension bike) with a little creative bending of the front left hand stays so as not to foul the disc brakes. The back of the bridge over the front tyre is drilled on the back to accept the mudguard upper mount on the bike shown.

There shouldn't be any problems with fitting the rear mudguard thanks to the disk brake being mounted inside the rear triangle.

I have SKS longboards on a 2012 Boardman CX Team, and I had to bend the front stays as Jenkins suggests. I can take some photos at lunchtime and post them for you to see how I routed them.

Thanks! I bent the stays by hand and just kept adjusting them and and offering them up to the bike until they fitted nicely. I should take a photo from above too coz you can't see in the photos that the stays come out a bit round the top of the calipers.

I got the bike when halfords were selling them off last October and can highly recommend it apart from a few minor issues - I found the supplied tyres lacked grip on wet roads, and would squirm about on roundabouts, and the top coat of paint seems to flake off a bit too easily where things are bolted on to the frame i.e. around the brake calipers and dropouts, but the undercoat seems ok. Annoying, but nothing a touch up pen can't put right.
