Get yourself down to your local Lidl - a few weeks back they had Cycling stuff in and part of the offer was a wired Computer for £3.99 - it is fantastic value for money, all the usual measurements plus a few Calorie counts and a backlight.

That sounds right up my budget does that. I'll go and have a look although I know Lidl of old and they can be quite fickle with their promotions. That said they do get some fab stuff in there.

tesco do a 17 function one wireless speed but wired cadence for a tenner . its worth that for the batteries included in it. fairly easy to fit too

Wow, I thought the Lidl option looked good but 17 functions for a tenner. It's definitely about the quantity for me with this thing. As I said it's a bit of fripary really and 17 funtions for a tenner is great frippary value. Looks like about 63p per funtion or something. I will check this out also. Thanks.

+ the cadance thing is really worth having
strong cycling is ALL about the cadance.

I just don't think I'm into that bracket of cycling just yet. Although I've used a bike since I was a kid I've never been what I'd think of as a serious cyclist. Right now I'm finding a renewed enthusiasm for bikes and am getting back into it gradually as a way of loosing some weight, improving my health and indulging my interest in bikes.
Possibly when I start doing more miles and getting fitter I'll look at cadence and cadence meters. I know for instance that I seem to try and keep my gearing such that I can maintain a steady cadence (I have no idea what rate it is, there is just a certain rythm that I'm most comfortable with) Little bit by little bit I'll work on keeping the same ryhmn in higher gears.
As I say though at the moment it's all about the fun but I can see where more advanced analysis will become relevant.

By the gods that's an absolutely incalculable amount of features per pound sterling. What's the catch? Is it the size of an alarm clock? Is it clockwork? Is the display in Chinese? I am definitely going down to Lidl sometime soon. Tesco too. I never thought that joining a cycle chat forum would have me champing at the bit to get down to the supermarket. I thought I'd be exposed to strange little exclusive old dealers who can hook you up with rare and hard to find bits and pieces. Shops that change location in wierd Pratchettesque ways. But hey if Lidl is where the action is at then I'm all for it.

I'm a big fan of the Cateye Wireless Strada........but the little minx lied to me tonight. The first time in our intimate eighteen month relationship , I think, but I'll never trust her again to tell the truth.

West-bound downhill on Holland Park Avenue, London W11 tonight, I engaged the biggest gear and cycled away. My estimate was an absolute maximum of about 45 km/h. Little Ms Strada logged 85.6 km/h. The trip distance and all the rest seemed entirely sensible. She's cheating on me.

Oh well....

my strada wireless logged a top speed of 69mph on a sportive the other week - no way did I go that fast!!

I have a raleigh wireless computer with quite a few functions on the wet weather bike, 15 notes from Argos! Has a thermometer too which is more than the 45 quid Strada has!

Aldi are doing bike computers for £4.99 atm. They come with a 3 year guarantee! I fitted one to my MTB yesterday, works OK but not quite as intuitive as the one they had in last year imo.
