Just thinking getting hold of the sealed bearings may be the problem.
Sealed bearing races are an industry standard, all you need to know is the external diameter, internal diameter and depth. A free hub will be something like a 28x15x7, expressed as an industry standard 9602.The size will be etched, stamped or imprinted on the bearing, and you just need to enter the standard bearing size into a search bar on eBay, or Google and you'll find no end of suppliers, and no end of different quality and price bearings that will fit.

I have got a wheel which seems perfect except for occasionally it slips. You may be able to locate the problem by removing the wheel and twisting the cogs in the direction of travel any slip here will indicate a problem with your freehub.

at 14 miles a day for over a year you've probably covered 3k miles or more...that's wayyyy beyond what id get out of a chain so it was well worth doing anyway.

My feelings exactly. It's overdue even if it's not the cause of the particular problem.

When I needed to replace some wheel bearings a couple of years ago, I discovered a local supplier based on the industrial estate a couple of miles from my house. They had no problem getting hold of what I needed, and a lot cheaper than I was expecting too.
