So after talking and talking about it, I finally got myself a bike. Not very exciting, expensive or technologically advanced, but this is what I got!

The seller did end it early for me as I paid him cash. Only concerns for me are the pedals as they have them plastic toe clips on them but it seems much lighter and a better gear change than my last bike. Had a quick 30 second blast on it and it seemed pretty good.

That's a decent bike Jetfire. I've got one in the garage which belongs to Mrs Crackle.

It's in touring mode there with swept back bars, skinny tyres and mudguards and rack but it also gets used off road.

There's not much to go wrong with them, front dérailleur can be finicky to set up but most of the components are decent, you should get some good miles out of that.

Edit: Change the saddle though. Mrs Crackle hasn't but finally realized that she should after riding my bike, even though I've been telling her for years not to have such a padded saddle.

Fantastic, I did wonder about the tyres etc being a bit nobbley for road use but I am keen to get out there now and give it a crack. Need to get myself sorted with a helmet next as to quote STMBO:

"I don't fancy doing tests on you in work after you've been hit by a car, so get a helmet please..."

Sshhhhh, don't mention helmets. There's a whole section dedicated to the circular helmet arguments. The only thing I'll say on the subject is to make your own choice about wearing them and when you've a spare hour of your life you never want to get back, go and read the helmet debates section.
