do you use maps and routing? if you do how do you find that compared with garmin?
Yes I use a few. RWGPS, Maplocs, Strava and Komoot. Its so easy to stand at the side of the road, plot a route on the phone and send it to the Wahoo Bolt. I have never liked Garmins routing. It may have changed over the last couple of years. It used to send you all over place.

thanks everyone. never thought of replacing the battery. ive just watch some videos of them been changed and it looks straightforward enough to do. might give that a go 1st as theres nothing wrong with the unit other than battery life.
Please report back as I will be very interested to see how you get on, it does look quite straight forward although it would be so good if higher spec' batteries were available.

How long do you get out your 810? I still get about 7 hours following a course on mine with TBT and screen dimmed down, any longer I use a powerbank, recently I rode 8 hours, plugging in midway it was showing 100% battery when I finally got home. You can get much smaller neater powerbanks and bags of course, if I needed to use for that duration frequently I would do. That said I am lusting after a Garmin 830

ive not got round / dared to give it ago yet. i get around 5-6 hours at most with routes on. i do use the power banks at the moment for longer rides. i have a large powerbank that can run my front light and charge my garmin over a 3 day period before been empty keeping it in a blackburn top tube bag. i would just like to do a long day ride without having to recharge the garmin

i think i am going to get a etrex for navigation (can just change 2 aa batteries over when flat) and a more basic computer for recording rides.

I have a 5000mah battery pack I use for day rides, sits in a top tube bag with some snacks and powers my Edge 820 - I don't notice it at all only weighs a few dozen grams.

If you want more life as you ride, I bought a Goobay 5000mAh powerbank for my bike and its insanely good. Kept my GoPro (whose battery life is plain garbage) running through RideLondon and had plenty juice left for my phone at the end, plus it's super easy to attach and remove from your handlebars.

Wasn't expecting much from it tbh, but it's a worthy spend for anyone wanting on the go juicing.

I've been looking into buying a bike GPS. I looked at the Wahoo Bolt and the Bryton 420 as it is cheaper. I looked at the companion app reviews on Google play and nearly everyone is complaining about them, can't sync or upload etc. Do the users on CC have any difficulty with the companion apps or are the reviews all lies?

Etrex will give you 600km of riding between charging AAs. Not good for on the fly routing, it’s too slow and often never completes a route. But for simply following a predefined track on the map and being ultra reliable it’s great.

I have a Wahoo bolt and having used the app to set the unit up I rarely use it ,rides upload to Strava directly from the unit and I rarely get upload issues
