No badgers where I am but plenty of otters. This idea that they are all very shy and retiring is a load of nonsense. There was one lived under the pontoons at the yacht marina and if it was quiet it could be heard eating crabs while lying on its back in the water under the decking. Another one used to come up out of the water near our workshop door and have a look in the door when passing to go up the neighbouring garden path.
Another was a right nuisance as it climbed up into the cockpit of our boat to eat its catch. Not a very tidy eater and left a terrible mess of bits of seafood.
